I want to try the format out.  If I purchase the Pioneer's new DV-563A will I be getting a good idea what I can expect from SACD, or do I really need to spend more, like getting the Philips DVD963SA, to get an idea of what the format sounds like?  Where's a real good starting point for under $500?

If you are only interested in SACD you can stick with the Sony or Phillips.  The music I want is split between DVD-A and SACD so I got the 563.  If you are only going to use it in two channel then the better players may be worth it.  

Two things to consider.
1)  How soon and how well a hi rez digital out will fit into your system.
2)  What type of preamp you will use if you will go 5.1.

I've got a DV-563A and it sounds really good. You can't beat it for the $.

just picked one up at bestbuy, pioneer  DV-563A.  so i'm hoping i'll get an idea of what to expect from sacd.  it's got a 30 day money back gurantee so i figured it could not hurt.  if i like what i hear maybe i'll get the urge to return it and get a better player.
