You simply run the front-left and front-right of the multi-channel analog outs from the receiver (Yamaha) to the HT/BP inputs.  When you want to run your system in multi-channel mode for Home theater or multi-channel audio, you simply turn the input select to the HT/BP input (input four) and toggle the HT/BP switch up if you want to bypass the preamps gain/volume control.

In this mode, the preamp is connected to the front channel amplifier, but is seen as a straight-wire - i.e. not in circuit.

I hope that this makes sense.

Thanks,

Dan

Dan,
Stupid question from a veteran Modwright'er:  why do you say "switch input to input 4" and then tell him to toggle up the HT/Bypass?  Doesn't the toggle do it, regardless of input selector?

Hi Ted, no, the only input that goes to HT/BP is the HT/BP input.  This is actually a safety thing, otherwise it would be too easy to have someone unwittingly flip the HT/BP switch and get full volume.

Thanks,

Dan,
I meant it another way.  I realize that a variable-volumed processor or receiver needs to go the HT/Bypass input, not a fixed volume thing like a cd player (that would be a huge problem waiting to happen).  I meant:  once you have the correct source in the correct input, and want to use the HT bypass funtion, why does the user need to switch the toggle AND switch the input selector to input 4 ?  I have always just simply switched the HT/bypass toggle up and voila, my processors front l/r outputs are routed through the LS 36.5 unfettered, regardless of what the input selector knob is currently set to.

The HT/BP in the 36.5 operates differently than the 9.0SE.  The HT/BP function also works with the unit powered off, which is different than the 9.0SE.

Thanks,
