Turning off tube amp - Any concerns?
« on: 3 Oct 2007, 01:04 am »
Hi all,
Is it a problem to turn off a tube amp with the source playing? It makes that fizzling-out sound. I hear no sharp transients or high-freq stuff, but could this be bad for speakers or the amp (or tubes)?

Thanks!

It is my general practice with any gear to always turn the volume all the way down on an amp before turning it off; also, if there's a mute function, I turn the volume down, mute it, then turn it off.  As I understand it, you always want to turn off the amp first and work your way back to the source as you turn things off.

I always like to turn the amp off while music is playing...sorta like emptying the tank...  Plus you get to hear the music gradually ...disappear.
On start up I get a fresh tank (charge) ...lol
Dunno if it hurts anything, never had any problems.

I can't think of why it would be bad. The signal is relatively small compared to the DC/bias voltages.
