Still enjoying the process here.  I don't think the burn-in is complete, but the iMod is already surpassing what I had before

Hi DougR,

Thanks for the update!

The improvements that you are describing are very typical when you burn-in the Black Gate caps... happens all the time and yet, they will continue to break in past 200 hours.

I also use the same caps in the Olive Music Server mod, and the same thing happens when burned-in under load.... a BIG transformation!

I promise everyone that their patience (with the burn-in process) DOES pay off, and I get emails all the time expressing that I'm correct about that  aa

Thanks again,

Vinnie

Well, even if the improvements stop now, I'd be happy Vinnie!  Just picking a random song like I did this morning turned up 3 concrete instances where the sound made me smile in comparison to the Nano line-out.

How the heck do you design circuits around caps that take so long to burn-in?  Do you do it on paper and have faith it'll turn out ok, or do you keep a pile of burned-in reference caps to prototype with?  I'd love to understand what transformation the capacitor goes through, but I guess that's all about the molecular makeup of the dielectric..

Hi -

Can you use headphones with the iMod without an amp if you have a cable with volume control like this one?

Thanks!

Hi m1brown,

You can try it, but I'm not sure how well it will work out.  The output of the dac really don't want to drive headphones directly (because of the low impendace of headphones).

Best regards,

Vinnie
