HDMI repeater/ active equalizer
« on: 7 Jan 2007, 07:43 am »
Hey guys,

First post, but have any of you guys or girls used a HDMI repeater/equalizer.  I have a 25FT run of HDMI to my projector and run it at 720P and it sometimes drop signal (once during a movie). So I talked with the guys I bought the cable from and they suggest me buying this.

Anyone try one of these, do they work?

Thanks

I would hate to buy something without knowing why it is needed - what is the source of the HDMI signal that is dropping?

It is from my DVD player. But this device is suppost to stop that from happening over long HDMI cable runs. Just wondering if it actually does, because it is a rather inexpensive piece of equipment. They should just integrate it directly into the cable at that cost

It says it is powered by the power line of the HDMI port. I also seems you would have to add a second cable on the other side of the extender, so even more money...

I don't have a projector and I am not sure about the specs for HDMI and cable length, or your DVD player. I would think you should be able to go 25 feet, but maybe not, maybe there is interference? Not sure what the Integrated Circuit 3815 is. This device seems to be a basic signal amplifier and it might work fine for your situation.

I will defer to others who have more direct knowledge...but I am wondering if you could exchange your current cable for a more suitable cable such as the "24 AWG STP". Maybe that is the cable you could use without the extender?

The HDMI I am using is 22AWG and full shielded. But I don't think there is any interference.
