Who's making good 32 inches stands?
« on: 13 Nov 2006, 03:50 am »
I am in the process of buying a pair of Omega Super 3R's for my office but unfortunately, being a tall guy I need tall stands (around 32 inches). Can anybody recommend a good brand that makes stands that tall?

Try Skylan Stands as they custom make a lot of stands for the Omega speakers. He may be able to accomidate yo on the height you need as well.

I'll second the skylans.. I got a nice pair for my ellis 1801s- they are rock solid, especially after I filled them with sand.  the owner (his name escapes me now) is great to work with and can most likely give you exactly what you need.

Thanks for the quick reply to both of you. I had looked at Skylan's website but the tallest (non-custom) speaker they make is 28" tall.
My preference would be for a non-custom solution to contain the cost.
Any other brand beside Skylan?

drop them an e-mail to ask about the price... you just might be surprised.  then again, you might not (there is a threaded rod that attaches the top plate to the bottom so I imagine that is where the custom issue might come in here if he has to source out a different sized rod)...

good luck- sorry I can't offer other solutions jim

Sound Anchor Adjustable Studio stands. http://www.soundanchors.com/ They are not inexpensive, but are some of the best stands made and will last a lifetime.

You could buy the 28" Skylan speaker stands and have a good buddy woodworker build a 4" tall box to sit them on and get the 32" height you're looking for. You could even fill the boxes with a heavy material like sand or something for better stability.

Me. I'm cheap!! I build all my audio racks and cabinets out of Oak. I have to when I find certain sizes that I need are not available.

I just sent an email to Skylan, after all it's always worth asking... let's see what he says. :)

That's a good idea. I actually was considering that because I have the option to buy the Skylan 24" stands for a discounted price with the speakers from Jacob of WitchDoctorAudio (great guy), who also suggested the same thing.

Me. I'm cheap!!
Eh, me too too... Maybe it's time to learn some wood working skills!

Yo Bro.!!!
I see you live in Oakland Ca. I live in Martinez Ca. If you need a woodworker I'd be more than happy to help you.

Hey, thanks for the offer, check PMs...

If I go the "foot boxes" way, how would the anchoring work? The 24" Skylan's have pretty long spikes that will hardly penetrate the wood... should I get smaller spikes or even remove them? And do I need spikes underneath the boxes too? :?  Just thinking out loud at the best sounding solution ...
