Anyone modding just the digital output of the SB units?

Forgive me if this question has been brought up before. There are just too many post on these units to find the answer. As stated does anyone mod the digital output of the SB3 or any SB unit? I'm not interested in running the analog outs or using the volume control. Infact the unneeded areas can be disconnected or removed. Also I prefer linear power if possible. Batteries are of no concern too me... with or without it doesn't matter. All I want the unit for is to use as a transport.

If so.. what mods are performed in this area? I'm thinking of buying one new or used(hopefully used)and having it sent in just for a digital output upgrade. If this isn't worth the trouble let me know. All comments are welcomed.

TIA for any help. :D

SB3 Digital Only Mod

This is pretty much the same mod that Zybar had done on his SB2. I believe he does like it :)

There have been comparisons made between stock and digital only mods. The majority have felt the mods made a significant improvement.

A digital only mod, used with a modded ELPAC Power Supply, should give you a very nice sounding front end.

I can say without reservation the difference in the digital mods (before and after) that Wayne does makes a pretty dramatic difference. Couple the mods with a good power supply and a good DAC and you'll never look at your CD player the same way again. In fact, I'm within a few days of putting my AH! Njoe Tjoeb and my Arcam 8se on the market (any takers?). They literally have been gathering dust for well over 6 months. Me, I'll never own another CD player. The modded SB is THE way to go.

Dude, where have you been? Have you not seen my review on the various combination of SB mods vs some very good CD players?

Thanks guys for the info..I guess I've missed quite a bit . This site is so large..sometimes I miss the post.

What is the difference between the modded ELPAC Power Supply and a Basic rev 1 PS ? Which one would be considered the better of the two? I see the Basic rev 1 PS isn't made any more..that doesn't mean it's not still good or does it?
Which one would you consider the most bang for the buck?

Thanks as always!!

PeteG compared the Basic Rev1 to a couple of other PS here

Barry compared the modded ELPAC to some PS here

The ELPAC is still available to order new. The Basic Rev 1 is not being made any longer.

Bang for the buck, the modded ELPAC is the best deal still available.

Absolute best sound would be the Ultimate Power Supply MKII
