portable cd player and Monica / other DACs
« on: 21 Apr 2006, 02:46 pm »
Hello -
Has anyone used a Monica (or other DAC) with a Discman-type portable cd player? A friend suggested I try this with a shock proof player - supposed have very little jitter and I bought a Phillips player with a line out but haven't been able to get it to work - I don't know if it needs to specifically be a digital out form the cd player, or even if they make such a thing...
Thank you,
Mike

Hi Mike,

Welcome to AudioCircle!

I remember going to a Head-Fi meet in Boston and one of the members had a Discman with an optical digital output.  I brought an optical-to-coax digital converter (also running on an SLA battery) and fed this into the Monica dac.  It worked very well.

There are also "iPod-like" players out there that have a digital output.  If you go to headfi.com and search in the "portable audio" section, you'll probably find a few.

Best regards,
