SB2 "wireless" question
« on: 3 Feb 2006, 05:59 pm »
Hi all,
I am taking a leap of faith before I understand this new to me technology, by buying an SB2.
My questions are: the wireless version is more versatle, right ? And, the SB2 can be modded for both analog and digital - you don't have to choose one or the other.
Thanks, yes I will catch on, have reading to do, but am going to buy one now to get started.
THANK YOU! Don

Wireless also has wired port.  So yes, it is more versatile.  Getting a full mod also gives you flexibility of using either output and know that they are the best that can be.  Good luck.

Don:
Just make sure you have either DSL or broadband. Wireless routers will not work with dialup.

Well, you'll still be able to setup a network, but you won't be able to share the internet phone connection.

I'd take advantage of the 30-day SG policy, try the stock SB3, and return if it doesn't work out.

Thanks guys, I don't have dialup, so no problem there.
I maybe haven't done enough investigation in this but I was hearing that the sb3 was more difficult to mod because of internal size...?
Does it matter, sb2 vs. sb3?
There are some wireless sb2's still available, but I thought I should order today or tomorrow.

I think Wayne found a solution for SB3 mod for now but there is certainly more room in SB2 for mods.  I had a Bybee put in on my digital out and that may not be doable for SB3. Functionally they are supposed to be the same.

The SB2 can fit larger and different capacitors for the analog output and DC input.

The case design of the SB3 does limit what can be fit inside.

Wireless can be used wired. Full mods include digital and Analog changes as well as internal power distribution changes.

BTW Charles,

My Netgear WP824 wireless router works just fine with NO internet connection, if I just want to play files stored on my computer.

Well, I suppose I should ask this too, you never know. Is the Platinum sb2 just referring to case color? Or anything that matters electronically?
...sigh...

You've got the setup with your router that I'd like to have with my Linksys router. But I'll be darned if I can figure out how to set the thing up as you have done.

You can call me dumdum if you like. The nickname fits me to a tee.

is a pre amp necessary? do you go from sb to amp, or sb>dac>amp?
thanks,

Wayne actually wants you to go SB2 to amp (or SB2 to DAC to amp).  I use a preamp just because I have too many inputs and I want to make the system easy to use for the signficant other.
