Well I have decided I want a DAC. Problem is I don't know a damn thing about them (other than what they do and how they work) or maybe I shouuld say I don't know a damn thing about who makes them. Since I trust your guys knowledge can you recommend some DACs? Used is fine, ability to be modded is ok. Like to stay under 400 bucks, but cheaper would be better
I know this is a small amount compared to most of your budgets, but hey, I have other things to buy too, I mean I am a HOME THEATER guy first!

If can recommend brands/models or if you see one posted on Audiogon or here, can you PM/Email me or post here?
THanks GUYS

Jamie,

I asked some similar questions the other night.  The one that came up as a possible answer was the Scott Nixon DAC.  Once in a while you'll see one pop up used.

I'm an HT guy too but also do a lot of music listening in my room and upstairs.  I just bought a SB2 and was thinking of doing the digital mod on it and adding the Nixon DAC for my system upstairs to try it out.

Thanks for the tip!
Scott offered some advice too, so I am trying to sort out everything and will make a choice after the new year.
I am wanting one for my SB3, as I am finding it hard to listen to the CD player anymore, just too easy with the SB3 to switch albums when I want and on the fly too!

I am now thinking I want a SB3 for my bedroom and my headphone setup. I would like to get the one I have for my 2ch setup modded but really I am pretty happy at the moment with it stock.

Thanks

If you want a good, affordable DAC, look at a used Adcom. I found this to be an exceptional piece for the money (used).
 Just another suggestion.
