I didn't get any answers the first time around so I figured I'll just try again

I have zero experience with subwoofers. I'm currently having fun w / Omega TS 3's using my trusty JVC and Pioneer 578 serving double duty as 2 ch/ 5.1 HT. I hooked up a pair of Energy es 8 subwoofers via regular analog DVD inputs without any problems. My question - Is there any way in hell the subwoofers can be used w/ DVD multi which is of course sonically superior. I'd really appreciate any suggestions 'cause I have no patience with the JVC manual.Thanks.

answers this too.

I DO have some information.  I own Criterian Collection's In the Mood for Love and it has a Dolby 5.0 (that's right - not 5.1 but 5.0) soundtrack. The sound IS the best with DVD-Multi on ONLY with this DVD.  I didn't check if the subwoofers were "working" but the low range was there and so was sound quality.  There is a scene with a rainstorm - and when it came on my brother refused to believe it wasn't raining outside too when he walked into the room.

I'll check if my subwoofers are working tonight with this Dolby 5.0 soundtrack.

OK - I'm back. I checked the subwoofers - no sound. It appears to me that the only way to get a subwoofer out signal with the F10S DVD-Multi mode selected is to put in a DVD-Audio disk.  Then the subwoofer fires up.

I'm starting to think that the way to bring the wubwoofer online AND use DVD-Multi for a standard video DVD with a Dolby 5.1 surround sound track is to by the little brother of the F10 on ebay (the E1SL) and run the digital out of the DVD player to that to drive the sub. That way the volume could be made in sync as both respond to the same remote. (More later)

I found a way to use the higlevel input of my subwoofer plate amps (RCM Detonation DT 150) with my Rx F10 which works fine for me.

I used a 220uF bipolar cap with a 15 uF Audyn MKP in parallel in each line to negative input of the plate amp. My sub has a 100uF filter cap inside. Th pos. line is directly connected to the plus input. My front speakers are directly connected to the high level out of the plate amp. At the moment I use quite tiny loudspeakers, Tannoy Sensys R´s.

F10 + ---------------- + plate amp in,
F10 - --------||------- - plate amp neg. in

plate amp out + -------+ speaker terminal
plate amp out  -  -------  - speaker terminal

In all modes  : set subwoofer to "No". And set center en rear to small with a crossover of 100Hz, or what you like. Also in the DVD/SACD player set simliar settings. All bass gets then redirected to the fronts.

It works flawless and very easy, sound quality is fine (with all those caps I had some worries).  You ca switch easily between the multichannel and other inputs. Only drawback is that you loose the remote control of the subwoofer level. It is very easy to integrate sub and front speakers.

Maybe the 220+15uF is a bit small, it will increase the crossover frequency with some 30%. More room for expriments. 8)
