I started this thread to document the extensive modifications that I did to some vintage 1991 Canon S-50 Wide Imaging Stereo loudspeakers. These are some of my favourite speakers as a child, bringing back some wonderful memories. The looks are straight out of Star Wars. Unfortunately, due to restrictive internal cabinet space limitations, I was not able to install exotic capacitors. However, I did re-engineer the cabinet structure internally to improve the vibration issues, and also removed any unnecessary components/parts in the circuit board, to get the cleanest most minimalist signal path, free from distortion. The finest wiring from Neotech and DUELUND with cotton sleeve was also installed.
The end result after modifications, produces some of nicest sounds that I have heard. Bass and treble response are both significantly extended/improved at each end. Basically the original issues of ‘rolled off bass and treble’ have been rectified by the modifications.
