I'm thinking of getting the big Kallax for my records.  It's 5X5 (25) cubes and stands 71".  You can put it on a steel footer which raises it another 7".

It looks precarious to me.  Anyone have experience with this?

I have friends that use the 5 x 5 ones without issues, none of them use the steel footers. There is a friend that uses the steel footers under a 4 x 4 Kallax unit. I personally use the 4 x 4 unit but no steel footers.

If I did buy a 5 x 5 units, I would personally just put it straight on the floor like I have done with the 4 x 4 units.

I've used two 5x5 units and a 2x5 unit stuffed to the max with vinyl for many years without issue. They sit directly on the floor, no footers.

  I currently have a 2.5 x 5 unit (8 cubes) stacked on top of a 5 x 5 (16 cubes) and never had a problem. I’ve had it for years, and there are no signs of sagging or fatigue. I have shims on the bottom because my floor isn’t level , but other than that, they sit directly on the floor.

If you look at the picture you'll see it has wall anchoring brackets in the upper corners, you'll be fine .....

I placed a 20gallon fish tank on top of an expedit.  i added L brackets in every corner.
