I don’t really watch this reviewer’s channel, honestly I’m only aware of it through it being mentioned in one or two of the GR Research videos, just being upfront. Since becoming aware of it, I have watched a couple different videos and have determined I’m not likely his target audience.
Regardless, I find it somewhat interesting that he requires as much hand holding he appears TO ME to be getting to review a pair of speakers. I wonder if the experience is at all similar to his experience buying and reviewing the CSS product he did in 2020. I mention this because my perception is that that product and business model is pretty similar to GR Research, I’m completely open to people correcting me if I’m misinformed here.
I’m not sure I care if he thinks the drivers are “cheap plastic”, has he not done any background research on these units, they have existed in this current form for YEARS. I’m MUCH, MUCH more interested in how they sound/perform and his impressions of them, both as stand alone units and compared to other units he has heard/reviewed in his space. I feel like I do understand the potential implications of a review of a poor representative sample of a product or for that matter, service. I also understand that GR Research is a small business and they go to great lengths to support their products as well as their customers. So I feel like I understand why Hobbs and crew at GR are “supporting” the reviewer in this case, it just feels like a bit much to me personally.
Last thought, is Jay actually a “customer” at this point or not? Just curious on what others think. Since the speakers weren’t provided by GR Research directly and don’t have to be “sent back” after the review is completed… and they weren’t bought from GR Research but arguably ARE representative samples of some level of a GR Research product available to purchase. It does seem to have gotten fairly “involved” to the say the least, maybe this is par for the course behind the scenes though, I honestly have no idea what goes into all of this “sausage making” so to speak.
