Both will have the same final impedance with different values:
8 + 8 / 8 +8 = 8Ω
8 / 8 =4, 8 / 8=4, 4+4= 8Ω
In my experience in pro-audio and hi-fi S-P or P-S connections are a great solution to speakers bands regularly use in stage or PA, but are not suited to hi-fi however its used in home audio too when 16Ω woofers are not available.
The prob with S-P or P-S is that these connections create reactance/inductance even in low SPL and the impedance will drop wildy at high SPL, I didnot know that but soon discovered why my ''robust'' Hartke bass amp blow a diode driving a 4x10 cabinet.
