I'm trying to decide on a good quality tube preamp. I see the Schiit Freya + & others under $1K. I saw this Diginity PM-201 offered @ $500. I also see Vincent SA32. Suggestions please?

As all in audio the best tube equips are the simplest circuits and contructions, I dont like noval tubes but this Eastern Electric Minimax preamp always have great reviews>

Aside that I remember the late Omo Tube preamp (Matisse emulator) was superb under 1 grand, the Omo layout was similar to the Minimax.

Hard to beat the Freya + if you can live with the limited inputs. Really great sounding preamp.

My current pre amp is the MP-701 MK2 Tube Preamp Pre Amplifier.  It can be had for under 1k.

Unlimited combinations available with tubes and capacitors.

I also posted my initial thoughts when I received the unit in the Tube circle.

I own an older version of the Balanced (level 3).  Fairly well built with minimal parts and functionality you don't typically find at the price.  Sounds good and IMO it's a VG value.  I see them used at below your budget. 

The Symphony (level 2) is the next model down and the new price is within your budget.  I hear good things about it.  Worth looking into.

Edit:   the Eastern Electric MiniMax is also a great choice at about $500 used.  Very musical and allows for fun tube rolling.  Years ago owned the version with Tom Tutay mods, loved how it sounded.  Sold it d/t lack of remote volume control.
