Using GRS Planar Drivers to clone Infinity IRS and RS1b

Danny,
I have always loved the Infinity IRS and the smaller RS1b and it appears that your GRS drivers could finally allow me to clone a system approximating the appearance of the famous Infinity speaker systems. As you know, they both use wings to extend the low frequency response of the EMIMs down to, the brochure says, about 100hz. It seems that your Servo woofer system would be the perfect compliment to build around these and create a full sized (6 woofers) and smaller (3 woofers) IRS-like system. Frankly, I think they’d outperform the 40 year old speakers because it appears your drivers are a lot better.

What are you thoughts regarding such a project?

Thanks
Paul

Check out Danny's Line Force design. These are based on the GR-Research NEO3 driver and the Bohlender Graebener Neo 10, not the new lower cost GRS drivers. From those that have heard them, these are a step up from the old IRS.

CaptainHemo is planning to do a production run of the cabinets shortly if you are interested. This may be the last time these cabinets are produced.

These will not be inexpensive to build (>$13K), but when coupled with Danny's open baffle servo subs, will likely compare favorably to anything on the market.

Thank you, Jaytor. I’ll take a look at those links and see what I’ve missed.

Current OB friendly bass drivers are vastly more suitable than those used by Infinity (and Genesis) back in the day.

You can easily get better response and volume with half the number of drivers, should you wish.

Likewise the Neo10 and Neo3 are miles better than the EMIM and EMIT and much easier to use as well.

A line of Neo10s will easily reach 100hz with active EQ.

I’ve been happily using the combo for years and haven’t heard anything better.

Your problem is that Neo10s are unavailable, and I’ve yet to see measurements showing the GRS drivers are a match.

The BG NEO10s are in short supply but not unavailable. Parts Express has been getting a couple of shipments a year. I have a set on order for a pair of Line Forces which Parts Express tells me will ship next week.

Did you receive the NEO10s as hoped? How did the project turn out? Pictures?

I'd love to see pictures of your speakers.

I do have the NEO10 drivers now, but don't have the other parts yet. I'm hoping to have these built sometime this spring.

That's awesome! I'm glad you managed to get them! Esp with how expensive they are!
Really looking forward to your build!
