Omega II is the generation / model of the preamp circuitry. A line buffer is an active unity gain circuit (voltage in=voltage out) that isolates parts of a circuit, often used to isolate loads like tape decks or long cables to prevent interactions wth your preamp.

If AVA tells you anything different, believe them, not me LOL

Thanks dB -I'm curious about how they are doing this ? Transistor ? tube? IC ? I'm going to forgo pestering them about this until next week -have real sympathy for them during their move and don't want to bother them (moved a year ago-still opening boxes and going -THAT's where that went !)

This info is copied from the wayback machine for the Omega III Buffered Line Driver option.  This is the earliest archived info I found, past virtually paging through all the old Audio Basics newsleters!

http://web.archive.org/web/19980119164354/http://www.avahifi.com/o3option.htm

The Omega III Buffered Line Driver circuits provide a dedicated fast high current hybrid buffered circuit set designed to enhance tape loop performance.

Many tape decks and signal processors are terrible loads, causing degraded audio performance, especially when the tape decks or processors are connected but turned off! Our hybrid buffered line driver isolates your sources from tape output loads and drives very difficult loads with ease. You will make better sounding tapes and significantly improve the overall musical performance of your system when the tape loops are used. The board connects internally to the preamp's tape output jacks.

The price is $60 for the kit option for Omega III SL and RB preamps or $90 factory installed in new Omega III EC, SL, or RB preamps.
