60 dB Bugle vs. 40 dB Bugle with Lundahl transformers?

What sort of differences should I expect between a Bugle set to 60 dB of gain vs. a Bugle set to 40 dB used with the Lundahl transformers? Compared to buying different resistors, the transformer route about doubles the price, so I am wondering if it is worth it? I am using a 0.4 mV cartridge, so I need some sort of high gain solution.

Thanks,
Frank.

PS - This is a wonderful forum. I have learned a great deal from reading the back posts.

Probably not worth the cost in step-ups.  Gain is easy with opamps.  Set to 60dB and try it out.  If the noise floor isn't good enough, you can revert to 40dB and try step-ups.

jh :)
