I seem to remember Frank saying that the Synergy amps double their power at 4 ohms.  But don't quote me on that.  There is also a used Synergy 300 for sale on Audiogon.

The 120W/Ch Synergy 240 we have available at $899 does essentially double power into 4 ohms loads.  It is an excellent Magnapan driver.

I just emailed Frank about it. At the same price for the SET120 of $899, it looks to be a lot better amp. Or at least a lot more powerful and robust. Is the sound quality on par with the SET120/SET 400?

I would say that the SET 400 is the better amp.  They have more texture and transparency. However, the Synergy amps sound great and they do not sound SS.  They lean a bit on the darker warmer side but just barely.  If you are planning to use the SET 120 with  Zu's then that would be the way to go.  But if you need an amp to use with the Maggies until you can get the SET 400 then the Synergy would be the way to go.  I really liked the Synergy amps.  Try it out with the 30 day return policy, there is no risk.

Yeah, thought the 400 would be the best Amplifier. And and I am trying different things out. Still waiting on the 60v power supply from Tommy for the STM. That might change things up. But I think a darker and warmer sound would be a perfect match for the Maggie’s.

If that Cherry amp will put out 400 clean wpc at 4 ohms, you will be set.  That is  plenty of power for the LRS and them some. 

I agree, Maggies sound better with slightly warmer and darker gear.  All my gear leans that way, even my cables.  I am interested in your impressions of the Cherry amp.  Some time in the next few years I will be down sizing my electronics.  I don't need to be lugging around a 105lb Pass amp and a 50lb BAT preamp.  Even my Luxman DAC weighs 28lbs.  So the Cherry amps have been on my radar along with a few other Class D amps and some Luxman integrated amps.

My son and I are going to RMAF in September, so I will be looking at a lot of new gear, including Harbeth speakers if they are there.

Maybe we can meet up and listen to a couple of systems. It’s a new venue and location this year so that will be interesting.

So I might just hold off right now on another amp purchase until I get a handle on the 60v Version STM and see how it well it works with the Maggie’s. Even though I love the sound with the ZU’s.
