2B-LP Pro & 2.5B3 comparison
« on: 25 Jun 2019, 12:58 pm »
I've owned both the 2B-LP (~2000 build date) and a 2.5B Cubed amp.  Unfortunately, I did not own both at the same time.  Both were excellent.  I felt like the Cubed amp was a slight improvement over my previous SST2 amp.

Curious to know if anyone has compared the two.  In particular a late build date 2B-LP (most recent updates) against the 2.5B3.  With there being a pro version of the 2.5 targeted at pro/studio users, I thing the feedback could be interesting.

Yes, there is a difference in power.  But comparing both -- within their power range driving reasonably efficient speakers (90 + dB) -- how do they stack up.

The 2B-LP has been around for a long time, with slight changes over the years.  It would be interesting to know how it has "kept up" over the years with the evolution to SST, SST2, and now Cubed amps.  In particular, the 2.5B Pro, which can be seen in a way as the direct competition.

May not answer your inquiry directly with the 2.5B3 and I do not know if Bryston indeed added the newer output devices to the current 2BLPs as they did with the later B60s who's amp section IMHO slightly out performed my most current 2BLP from 2002..both my 4BSST and 3BSST2 offered a more natural congruent top end over the 2B and B60 so I'd imagine the 2.5B3 to perform similar and maybe better to the latter amps. Probably not a very discernible difference but a difference non the less.
My 2B from 2000

I wonder if the SST output devices ever made it into the 2B-LP? My ‘99 B60 didn’t have them, but Bryston Canada installed them for quite a reasonable price. There was an appreciable improvement. Not night and day, but definitely worth far more than the $150 or so they charged me.

I think you answered your own question. I own the 2.5bsst2 and I was curious as to the difference between it and the cubed. Now all you have to do is describe to the best of your ability the "slight improvement."

Not really as I didn't have the three amps all at the same time for a direct comparison.

But for the differences in SST2 to Cubed....in hindsight I would have rather spent the money in other areas of the system.  The Cubed series is great but reflects the Bryston philosophy of evolutionary improvements.
