S2.38 and Tidal
« on: 5 Sep 2018, 06:39 pm »
It's good to see the 2.38 update, and I'l looking forward to seeing how the Play Some Song feature works out.  I recently tried the Radio feature in Roon and after a few days found it really impressive in throwing up new music for me that I wanted to hear.  But what I want to ask about is the Tidal feature in the Default MPD player. How is it supposed to work? I am signed in to Tidal and when I select Tidal in the Default MPD list, all my Tidal settings appear, and I can, for instance, select and load anything from My Albums to the playlist. But only the first minute or so of each song plays and then jumps to part play of the next song. Can full Tidal songs actually play whenselected from the MPD view or only when choosing the Tidal application setting. Is it going to be possible, as in Roon, to mix into a playlist locally stored files with those from Tidal?

Thank you

D

If you go into media player settings (gear), under TIDAL, what does it show the status as?

the quality set to lossless? Can you give me the names of a few tracks you tried playing that experienced this problem?  Could you run and report the results of the below speedtest please?  It also could be helpful if you placed the bdp into service mode and emailed me the service id.

Chris,

the Tidal music - Lee Konitz & Dan Tepfer — Decade
Miles Davis Conception

I have not run your speed test - it's Goggle related!  I test our speed every week and we are at 100+ Mbps.  MY BDP-1 is wired to a switch directly linked to the router. and there are two WAPs in the room as well.  I have no problems using Tidal/Qobuz/HRA as stand alone apps or as embedded in Audirvana+/Amarra/Roon.

I have used beta firmware for sometime and have noted this problem with Tidal within MPD list before.  The Play Some Track feature is not working either right now. Has there been some unannounced version of this feature implemented before now? I seem to recall tracks unexpectedly being added on to finished playlists once or twice in the past.

Yah the add some song feature has been in the beta's for quite some time, in fact it almost made it into S2.36 but the bryston api feature wasn't mature enough to make it work well during our testing.  I'm still not sure how well it'll work on every ones setups, its one thing to test against our own libraries, quite another when you release something into the wild.  I'll have a look at this as well, its a bit late for today but i'll look at it tomorrow.

Any update on this yet, Chris? I've put the BDP into service mode and PM'd the ID to you.

Yah I didn't start working on it till late in the afternoon, the drive your using as a scratch drive was in read only state.  I think the filesystem corruption that pushed it into read only has been fixed but a reboot was required and its just popped back up for me.

Chris,

I have the exact same issue.  BDP1 S2.38 using Tidal via either  default or artist view just plays the first minute or so, before jumping to next track.  Tidal BDP  application works fine, as does Tidal desktop or via Roon.  Download speed is 47 mbs.

Thanks

Chris seemed to have solved this for my BDP-1,  the whole of songs from Tidal My Albums played in the MPD playlist for about five songs of a Melnikov Debussy album. But then stopped playing. I restarted and tried Tidal from MDP again but the original problem was back, 40 to 60 seconds and the song skips to the next one.
