Ooops, I just realized the ones I have are the Satori MR16PNW-4 midranges, not the woofers Jim referenced. My bad

I am surprised so few play with the 92 db B&G Neo 10.

They're just a bit expensive to "play with" at 199 a pop, there is no data to determine (analytically) things like max output vs frequency, and being a planar consisistency can be a bit variable. I've asked PE a couple of times if they had any measurements to confirm that the one they are selling now are the same as before but so far, no data.

FYI a short line array has frequency response that varies with distance. See Jim Griffin's paper.

Have you listened to the MW16P yet? Its one of the very few widerange drivers I might tolerate sans tweeter.

Of course a tweeter will add some air at the very top. If OB, I hope you mean a lot of 8s!

cheers,

AJ

AJ Do I need multiple 8s if I am using the GR research subs?

JohnR:

I think I misunderstood your post about boosting "the woofers" I thought you meant the Satori Mid.

Hi Jim,

If I recall, the GR servo 8s are only available in multiples (2-3?). A single ob 8 won't have much of what I would call bass, unless one listens at fairly low volume.
Ignore that midrange graph I posted, might be time for the optician . Your Satori woofer should work well OB, but 275 passive might be a stretch without a very large baffle and/or low sensitivity (using a shelving filter to get your F3). Active, no prob.

cheers,

AJ

OK so we keep screwing this up, I am using dual 12 inch GR subs. Now I am thinking of using the 8 inch satori MW19 as the MID to bridge from 275hz to 2khz. If that still wont work then I need to pick another driver.

The Satori MW19P-8 looks very nice, though it may well need an 18db/oct crossover a little below 2Kc/s to pull down that rising response at 3Kc/s.

This may be the driver for a OB project planned in the future.

CM,

Yes I noticed that, which is why I have considered adding a 5 inch mid to really eliminate that effect. But then its more drivers and more complication. So is it better to just keep it 2 way with steeper slopes or 3 way with shallower slopes?

Ok, you got plenty bass! Pardon if I missed it, but is this passive or active? The 8ohm satori MW19 has a bit higher Qts for your bottom end 275 goal, but a nastier breakup midband. 12"/8" 3 way is Orion format (or Orionoid like mine). 12/8/5 4 way is more LX581, though a smaller upper mid is used (4"). Really comes down to what your trying to do polar wise, on a given baffle shape.

AJ, I am going to use the A370 amps on the Dual  12s. I am using a ModWright KWA100SE on the toppers. IIRC, the MW16 doesn't seem to have the breakup at 2khz. There are lots of ways I can go with this:
12/12-8/1 or 12/12- 8/1/8 (MTM) or 12/12-8/5/1, 12/12-6/1 or 12/12-6/1/6. Choices choices  :duh:

Ok, so passive. Well, you best start modelling driver-baffles to get close to 275, otherwise as stated previously, you will need to shelve down >275 a bit.
Keep in mind while a large/wide baffle may get you down there, polar response will suffer...and depending on room/placement...
