Yes, indeed, Acoustat made some hybrids as well as full rangers...  A friend of mine bought and still has some Model 2H new back in 1983 for 1100 smackers... The "H" meaning hybrid.. It was a model 2 with a downward firing 10inch woofer incorporated at the bottom.. Have to say , it was a successful marriage..  Strickland did a good job....

My 2cents,

ESL's sounds so differently from magnostats  , that the only thing they  have in common Is their panel like structures. IMO and I'm with Henry Ho  on this,  magnostats sound more natural and real to To me vs  ESL's , no accident , to see the best dynamic speakers using  planer or ribbon tweeters ..

Can ESL's sound good , sure , i enjoyed my quad 63''s  with  active subwoofers  very much ,  couldnt really get into ML's or Soundlabs , mostly  i prefer the dynamic reach , pin point focus and imaging of a big ribbon linesource  hybrid thou. In a  small room , cozy listening , Quads, big room with big amplification , Diva's ...

Horse , course  and of course your ears ...
