DD to PCM
« on: 20 Oct 2015, 09:33 pm »
Hi guys,

I need to take DD to PCM. I'm trying to use DAC with cable box. The cable box says it can output PCM under the menu I selected it. Well it's a flat out lie. It's not PCM....

Might  I ask who's cable and what box?

My comcast digital out of my current box is static.   I will changing boxes next month and I will be present so I hope this will be corrected.

Charter, it's the DHC6200.

I've been searching the net on the subject. Some say that Verizon's service disabled PCM out. I haven't anything else useful.

That could be right from this thread - https://forums.verizon.com/t5/Fios-TV-Technical-Assistance/PCM-Audio-from-set-top-box/td-p/15199

I've also seen devices like these (Geffen makes one) - http://www.amazon.com/Panlong-Optical-Toslink-Coaxial-Converter/dp/B00ANIIY9I/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1445385693&sr=1-1&keywords=digital+audio+decoder

The problem is the output is analog.  Does the TV have an analog input and can it take that to toslink out?

Well it's useless to convert to analog in a box that's a few dollars, when the goal is to have the world class DAC do it.

That splitter box would work except then I have to convert the Toslink to coaxial... it's nice that it has two channel output (PCM).
