noise from speaker
« on: 9 May 2015, 09:52 pm »
Hi all, I was running a cheap $130 DVD player as a source until I got my ASi/Modwright/OPPO105 back from mod, and it idled silent.
Once I got the front end back, it now emits a hiss/buzz from the speakers.
at half volume, I can hear the hiss from the listening position.
The player runs into a jadis DPL pre, then on to a first watt F6.
The first thing I tried was lifting the ground to each of the power supplies and oppo, one at a time, to no avail.

I moved the ground wire that feeds the MW board  to come off the ground rails,
and it helps, but not completely.

So upon recommendation from the modifier, I moved a ground wire from one postition
directly to the negative rail that feeds the rca output negative. That solved it.
Then i hooked a wire from the ground post on the chassis of the preamp to the center screw on the wall receptacle, and floated the ground
on the preamp's power cord. This eliminated a very faint 60hz buzz. What remains is a low pitch hiss, not audible from the listening position.
could be tube rush, even though I'm using vintage low noise medical 12Au7's

Hey jhrlrd,

Did you solve your hiss/buzz issue completely?
