I had a thought on how to organize cables nicely in the back or your rack without having to tie cables together which usually leads to added noise.  I have been having this problem with my IC's getting too close to my power cords and picking up hum.  It has been driving me nuts trying to keep them all spaced apart without making a huge mess of cords.

Then it hit me.  Why not use a cargo net on the back of your rack?  something like this:

Then you can weave your cables through the different grids and keeping the right amount of spacing between cords while still organizing the rats nest.

I am thinking of adding a cargo net to the back of my audio cabinet.  Now just to find the right size and appropriate grid size net.   I think I want to stick with the stretchy kind so you can easily put your hand through the net to reach the back of the gear when needed.

Thought you guys might find this useful.

That's how Chuck Josephson STARTED !!!! :D   Next he started hanging tubes from the ceiling: it's a slippery slope you're on.....

but seriously, seems like a promising idea.

In my case, I plan to hide it inside the cabinet, so it won't be visible.  So I'd like to think this is pretty far from chuck josephson-esque.

Good idea

My rack takes care of this for me, but I need something for the rats nest on the floor.  Any ideas?

Picture 5 speaker cables (Bi amped speakers and a subwoofer) and 7 power cords (2 amps, crossover, CDP, electrostatic panels (2) and a subwoofer) going into two surge protectors that plug into two seperate wall outlets, all in about a 2' X 4' space where everything converges.

Why not just use wireless cables?

All we really need is someone take it to the next step.

I'll see if I can talk Robert Schult of Ridge Street to fab up a matrix of awesome cable, you know, in the form of that netting...should be a piece'o cake.

Bob???

I may have thought of a solution to my floor problem based on the original idea posted here.

A 3D net of sorts.  Use a milk crate which has sides with "holes" in them.  Run the wires through the different holes to the power strips, keeping the separated.  Now all I have to do is go find a milk crate, any ideas of where something like that can be found without having to resort to theft.

I found the crates I use for vinyl at a drug store, but typically houseware stores carry multi-purpose crates.  Your idea should work out well, just wonder if it will look hideous or if you are hiding it?

Thanks, I'll check out the local Longs

It will be hidden by the rack
