Hi Guys,

As I've sold my older WTL Chassic MK V, and am holding onto the Amadeus GTA MK II, the new owner reported that some of the silicon residue was left in the tonearm cup assembly upon arrival and had spilled onto the plinth, darn I felt that I had did a more then decent job of cleaning it up before shipping, but as the new owner wanted me to leave the tonearm intact, I didn't take it upon myself to raise the bearing cup to clean underneath it, so I'm wondering if any of you can share what you've found to work well in cleaning up both the spindle bearing well oil as well as said silicon fluid used into the tonearm damping cup?.

I recall reading a long time ago, that either Windex or Lighter Fluid might work?, but would rather be safe and ask guys whom actually own these tables - then go elsewhere.

Please advise.

Regards,

I just cleaned my table off for a sale, and found it difficult to get everything completely clean without using a sponge and dish soap (not too many suds), and then wiping with a rubbing alcohol soaked paper towel. This seemed to work on the metal and MDF parts, as well as the golf ball.

Hi watercourse,

Man, thanks for coming through - I has a feeling in the back of my head it had something to do with rubbing alcohol, but wanted to be sure. And I must say I'm sadden to hear that you're selling your table, and can only hope your next one moves you more, it took me over 5 years to think about letting one of the last Classic versions ever made go ( circa 2007 built ), because I've always believed the older designs had a more purposeful looking plinth, and looked more manly, as well as polished to my eyes at least - but I came to realize it had set on our listening room floor over tge course of the last 3 1/2 years untouched, and received a great offer for it, so I thought why not!.

But in your case, I shall be following to see where you've ventured off to?.

Thanks again,

Actually, I got an Amadeus!  :D

I sold the Simplex to a budding enthusiast for a good price, and threw in some nice carts to get him started. Start him off on the good foot.

Lighter fluid is what I use.  Works well and quickly.

I recall that the manual said lighter fluid, but Mike P also said rubbing alcohol. I guess there are options!

Oscar, I think the WTL tables are great, and happy to get someone started down the vinyl road. He's a student that has discovered 1000s of records in his university library to enjoy. Here in SF, the library LPs are so worn and scratched I wouldn't even think about it.

Thanks Steve,

I do appreciate you chiming in, as there does seem to be several worthwhile options to pass on.

Yes, I did recall the lighter fluid method from the early 90's, so once again, this information should prove worthwhile for others later on, once they need to clean up the mess said fluids can cause.

Yes............, I've always came back to the WTL tables after trying two vintages of Linn LP12's, along with a few upscale Rega's, but to my way of thinking, there's something about the sonic of these tables that seem to take a great deal more cash to beat, and I love the fact there's very little in them that wears out. And I don't do anything besides Japanese imports for used jazz LPs, and more often then not, these are in true NM/Mint condition, never was much into scratched up records touching my platter.

Once again, much thanks.

Hi gagamut,

Once again, thank you for chiming in as well, the new owner of the table has been emailed the two methods mentioned here, and has informed me that both worked equally as well, and the mess has been cleaned up, so the table is ready to be set up and enjoyed. But once again, this information is here now for future reference just in case someone needs to know how to go about cleaning up theirs one day - so this has proven very helpful indeed.

Thanks guys,

I agree with Gagamut, paper towel first and then rubbing alcohol.
