Unifield model Two MKII
« on: 30 Jul 2013, 11:31 am »
Hi all  :D

As a new owner of a pair of VSA Unifield model Two MKII speakers, I just wanted to share my experience and my opinion concerning these "small" but fabulous loudspeakers. I already introduced myself in the post http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=97466.msg1240816#msg1240816

To get new loudspeakers is always an exciting moment! The trip from USA to Belgium went fine, packaging was in perfect condition (packaging was excellent, very secure, thanks to VSA!), the unpacking and installation at home went also fine. Even if they seem small I can say that it's heavy  :green:

The UF2 still packed:

My stands (Solid-Tech Radius 620mm) filled with sand:

Speakers on stands:

The whole system:

I'm now in the break-in period for a few weeks, even if they are already very impressive, I will wait before posting any serious comments concerning sound.

Just some remarks/experiences with the UF2 MK2:

My first mistake was to put too much Blu-Tack under speakers... It produces a muffled sound with a big lack of high frequencies, spatialization and depth, a very bad sound in summary! I have read that the advised size for Blu-Tack is the size of a pea (feel free if you have any advice?). After this change, good sound was back.

The main difference that I heard between MKI and MKII until now is the extension in bass, it seems to me that the MKII has a wider bandwidth and they explore more lower frequencies. Maybe too much bass   cause I had to put them more away from the rear wall and I still sometimes have some resonances (due to my room).

In appearance the MKI and MKII are almost identical, except the terminals (maybe last MKI also were these terminals ):

The painting of front also looks different, it looks more robust in the MKII (maybe last MKI also were this painting)

Feel free to post your comments  :D

Fabrice

You have a very "live" appearing room.

Fabulous pics Fab!  I am always impressed not only with people's photographic skills (compared to my finger-in-front-of-the-lens on my iPad efforts) but also your patience. I am too busy pulling the wrapping off to stop for photos :)

I know Blu-Tak is a long-standing recommended interface between speakers and stands but I never was impressed by the sonics. I don't imagine the amount can have that much impact (unless you stuff it where you shouldn't) so perhaps try running naked. If you worry that the speakers might slide off, then by all means try some but I'd get my ears used to the sonics 'naked' (and allow for break-in) before adding something else. Lots of people like the HAL support products and Herbie has various flat 'dots' that might work well here - I use sets of his Big Fat dots (which are neither big nor fat, actually) between the modules on my VR5SEs. And agree again, you have a lovely room.

Hello Fabrice,

Thanks for sharing the pictures and comment.
Good to read you are sattisfied.
About the blue tack, we only use 1/4 from the stuff which is packed with the stands for both speakers, so just four little dots per side.

Have fun breaking them in and enjoy the music.
I will contact you soon.

Thanks to all  :)

Cor, 1/4 should be enough indeed, as I've read on the web => better is to put as less as possible  :)

Delacroix, what's HAL support products? and who/what is Herbie?

Many thanks!
Fabrice

Just what Cor said -- plus Herbie himself runs a circle here on the AC, so you can talk to him directly: http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?board=160.0

Enjoy

If I need more blue tack (for my unifield 3), is it just the standard blue tack I buy at the hardware store?

Hi all,

Does the new Constellation Audio line "Inspiration" would be a great thing to follow?  :D

Hello Fab,

you can also look at the Modwright amplifiers, who got a best sound award last week in Munich.

Hello Cor

Yes indeed I saw that Modwright got this award (and with Endeavor loudspeakers! ) my goal was just to get opinions about new Constellation line since this brand is used for VSA demo and I guess it would be a good experience to listen to it

Regards,
Fabrice

P.S. I would say that for the moment I'm still very happy with my Perreaux!
