Another Thanksgiving week sale.
« on: 26 Nov 2013, 05:59 pm »
Okay, it is kind of like a Black Friday sale, but last until they are gone.

I still have some X-LS Classic cabinets left. They look just like these pictured below except they are cut for the Classic dome tweeter.

I have 4 pair left in unpainted MDF and 3 pairs left in black.

I am blowing them out. $40 a piece for the MDF ones and $50 a piece for the black painted ones.

Then you can order a complete X-LS Classic kit for $109. That is for everything pictured below.

Call to order to get this deal: 940-592-3400

remember this sale is good until they are gone. So you better get them while they last.

OK Danny I am in for a black pair, although I have never done a kit before. Have no idea where the crossover will mount, or  if I need to line with No rez, polyfill, etc.  Will need direction.

Reason I am purchasing these, wish to see how they compare to the little Pioneers. Not sure what or where i will put them, but not a lot of
cost.

Will call after post.

You'll like this kit Don. And building it out is a piece of cake. This one is really at a beginner level of difficultly.

And you might want to spring for a sheet of No Rez. No Rez will tighten up the bass response and give you a cleaner lower vocal region.

Sounds like a plan. However, I am below the beginner status, more like Noob would be closer to my ability as far as kits go. :duh:

Danny,

Ron Joyner is going to build me a set of XLS encore with the piano black cabinets from PE.  How do these compare?  Is the tweeter cut-out too large for the Encore tweeters?

Lining the cabinet with No Rez or not will have a greater effect on the sound than any differences between the two cabinets. I don't like the quality of the MDF in the PE cabinets compared to US made MDF, and I don't like the brace running up and down. That can cause a problem. I cut the center of the brace out when I use those boxes. After cutting out the center of the brace lining the cabinet with No Rez fixes those issues.

The tweeter hole is larger on the X-LS Classic. But I do have some Encore tweeters with X-LS Classic face plate sizes just for upgrading them. So you could use these boxes with the Encore kit if I supply the larger face plate Encore tweeters.

I mentioned this a while back in another thread...  I believe the  encore tweeters  use a larger  through hole  than the classics.
When I built the encores,  I originally  had built for the classics .  Changed my mind when I actually ordered the kit and go tthe Encores with the classic face plates.    I eneded up having to glue a plug in the  original Classic cutout   so I could re route  a larger through hole (3.125 Encore vs 2.75 Classic)

Just something to be aware of

You can make the through hole larger with your router without having to make a jig for it. You can do it by hand just going around the inside edge of the through hole until it is opened up large enough. I personally do it with a hand held die grinder. Even if it is a little off the big face plate of the tweeter will cover it all and the gasket will seal it.

That'll work too
Think if I were doing it that way I'd  use the die grinder as well,  one slip with the router and ... DOH   :o

That price is too good to pass up.  I haven't finished the X-LS Classic I'm currently building but went ahead and ordered another classic kit and an unpainted cabinet.  The 2nd set together with a X-CS and 12" servo sub will be a wedding gift for a good friend.  It's going to be a busy winter.

Actually a guy brought in a pair of those last week. They measured pretty smooth. The spectral decay was real clean. The impedance was a bit high on the tweeter end, and had a slight resonance down low. Not bad. The cabinets were pretty hollow and resonant though.

They sounded pretty good too, but as soon as he heard the X-LS Encore he mentioned that he might be able to return the Pioneers. He bought a X-LS Encore kit, Sonicaps, No Rez, and tube connectors.

I received my cabinets a few days ago but didn't get a chance to look at them until tonight.  There are shallow holes in the bottom for feet.  Do you know what size and style of insert they are for?  The 1/4-20 inserts I have were a bit small.
