I read the article to say that DSD can now be added to Lampi dacs (i.e., it does not have to be a separate box); what I'm still not clear on is whether you still have to have a completely separate input for the DSD side of things---from earlier correspondence I was advised that the user had to manually switch inputs (i.e., pcm files were played via one input and DSD files via another).  That basically was the only thing that stopped me from jumping in and trying a Lampizator---I use playlists most of the time, and my playlists have both redbook, high res and DSD files and I didn't want to have to manually switch inputs.

I've pm'ed Lukas here thru AC and also tried to send an email asking if this was still the case, but I never heard anything back....

It is still the case, but with the Volume control and remote, you can switch using the remote...Not need to get up and manually move the physical switch (input selection). Same for DSD rates, but I have heard that they now have autosensing between DSD64 and 128.

Trade off yes, but if you want pure DSD....for me its not a big deal, even for manual switching, as I keep my DSD playlist separate (I have no remote control option). I could also choose to convert to PCM on the fly, if I just wanted continuous music from a mixed format playlist. Lampi is PCM is already giving a famous sound.

You have to realize that Lampi PCM and DSD have completely separate architecture. PCM uses a Dac chip, DSD does not. With the VC option, PCM is passed digitally to the DAC chip (digital input), while DSD is passed in the analog domain to the output tubes (analog input)...all switchable via remote control.
