More spring cleaning : this receiver has gone unused the last two years as it was replaced w/ a SR5005 + an AV7005.
It has that warmer & musical sound that Marantz's are known for, not your typical shrill mass market receiver. So it's good for both music & home theater.
It's rated at 80WPC into 8ohms & 105WPC into 6ohms. I tried it recently w/ some Vandersteen 2CE that are 7 ohm nominal & 4 ohm minimum w/ a lowish 86db efficiency rating, and it had no problem driving it.
What are you NOT getting that a 2013 receiver might have? Mainly it doesn't do Dolby TruHD & DTS HD Master Audio, which is a newer hi rez format mainly just for blu ray players. If you're going to use it for DVD players, satellite / cable boxes, or even apple tvs, etc, theses are typically plain dolby digital, which this does support. This receiver does have 8 ch in, so if you're blu ray player has analog out & these hi rez formats, your good to go. The other main omission is automated room correction software (e.g. Audessy), which some people swear by, others not so much. And lastly, networkability / apple airplay / etc.
What it does have that is less common these days is 8 ch pre-amp output, so you're free to use whatever external amplification you want & use this as a budget home theater processor.
