I am new to audio circle and recently i have been looking closely to upgrade my amplification from tube to Class D amplifier( Wyred for sound or Bel Canto). They will be driving a pair of tekton Pendragon. The reason of my upgrade is just i am looking for more Low end frequency and more dynamic. Will this be a good match or should i just stick with tubes?
Thanks for all your help in advance.
Dan
I think you are making a generalization that tube amplifiers have to be less dynamic, with less low end control then their SS/Class D brethren. I had a Pass Labs 250.5, before I replaced it with a set of Manley Classic Neo 250s.
I didn't feel like I lost a whole lot of low end control, or dynamics at all in Tetrode mode compared to the Pass. I did note a large amount of improvements however, over the Pass, that I appreciated.
I would personally try to audition some different brands of tube amplifiers over what you have now. There are a lot of companies that design modern tube circuits that can give you control, slam, and neutrality, with the benefits that tubes bring to music reproduction.
Manley Snappers.
Rogue M150s
BAT
There are a lot of options.
Good luck.
