Question on adding volume control to amp
«
on:

I have a classD amp that I'm going to power a sub with. The sub has a duel voice coil driver and I'll use one channel to drive each coil. Here is a diagram of how I wired in Alps pot to give mono signal into each channel, as my X-over only output mono.
As i'm fairly new at this I thought I would check here to make sure this will work, as someone said all the smart guys hang out here
Thanks for any help.

It's okay except you need to carry the ground connection across both sections....the same as you have done with the + input.
However, you really only need to use one section of the potentiometer to achieve your goal.
Cheers,
Dave.

As Dave said, you only need one side of the pot and I would suggest this. By paralleling the sides, the impedance will be cut in half and will be harder for the source to drive.

Per the responses from Dave and Mike, you just need to go to single pot section.

Hey Mike
You want to either use the top row of pins or the bottom row of pins, but not both. If you have a mono pot, I'd use it instead, as you are wasting half of the stereo pot.
Hope that makes sense.

You don't want or need a dual control. Connect all the wires to a single section with no connections to the second section.

I think the old brain got it, each set of three pins is one channel. So this should do it.
Thanks for your help, Mike

FYI...the ground pins from each "mono" pot in the case are probably connected to each other internally (you can test with a DMM), so that part really didn't matter (ground is ground). Looks cleaner, though, if you treat the entire case as two mono pots sharing the same shaft (man, does that ever sound nasty
).
Good Luck!
