I put a dab of mineral oil on the inside to make the cable comparison switching less painful.

It seems a bit odd that you would use a non-conductive insulating fluid on your ground connection while trying to make hair-splitting audiophile comparisons.

Good point, I'll have to stop at Rat Shack and replenish my supply of Caig Gold and Detox.  It was a desperation solution for late night listening, the darn things won't move off the RCA jack without so much pressure that I'm afraid of breaking something.  I understand wanting a tight connection, the Monster M1000 has a very tight connection and you must be careful detaching them, but the Markertek is ridiculous.

So I've spent a great deal of time swapping back and forth between the Markertek and the relatively inexpensive Monster M1000D.  (After a thorough cleaning and treatment with Caig Detox and Gold treatment for both cables, thanks Steve) The Monster cable was best described in an old review on What Hifi, :"There's a sense of occasion to the M1000D – it brings scale to low frequencies, and the upfront midrange contributes to the excitement. The top end is clean, offering separation even in complex passages. Slight lack of detail makes for an airbrushed sound, though."  I couldn't have described it better.  The Markertek cable was detailed, cold, and lacking in both bass energy and musical textures in comparison.  So the detail battle goes to Markertek, in all other areas the Monster was superior.  However, I would note that without comparison, I liked the presentation of the Markertek product and thought it was a good value for the price.  Next I'm going to replace a Radio Shack cable (I think it's called Avio or something like that) in the home theater with the Markertek product and see if there's improvement over a more plebeian competitor.

Well, I couldn't resist trying out this inexpensive Markertek cable and the 3 foot rca spdif cable finally arrived in the mail today.  I'm currently using a meter of Blue Jean digital cable.  First thing I noticed was that it is a very tight connection.  At first I didn't think it was going to fit, but with some pressure I was able to get installed in between my Empirical Off Ramp 4 and my MHDT Stockholm dac.  Of course the cable isn't broken in yet, but my first impression was that the music had noticeably more bass and that the mids seemed cold which resulted in less musical involvement.  I'm a bass fiend so I really like the increase, but it sounds a little off balance.  I might have to lower the volume on my sub.  I'll keep it in place for awhile and let it break in then try my old Blue jean to see which one is the best match for my rig.  It's really too soon to make any conclusions.  I'll post more later.  Ernie

I've had mine in place for a few weeks now and really like it. I haven't done an A/B with my Nordost Silver Shadow, but I'm not hearing anything that stands out as bad. In fact, I felt like it might be a step up across the board. Too bad the RCA's are so darn tight, if they weren't, I would do more back to back comparisons.

I bought a another pair to use as analog IC's, but haven't put those into play yet.

I've had the Markertek cable in now for 3 days.  I hear more resolution/detail which is nice and the bass extension is nice too.  I had to turn down my sub volume, otherwise it sounded too bass heavy.  The bass is now much tighter.  Also sounds a tad more "digital" compared to the Blue Jean cable I was using.  I think the music sounds less enjoyable.  Perhaps I miss the warmth and it is bordering on analytical sounding.  Not sure yet, more time will flesh it out.  Maybe needs more break in?

I am not looking forward to removing this cable because it is so darn tight fitting.  I hope I don't break something.  I'm dreading it.  Ha, maybe that's part of their marketing scheme.  J/K

It is tight because it is designed for HD video pro installation. They do not get plugged and unplugged much and HD requires the best fit possible to pass the signal thru the poor (at best) RCA connector. Regards John

Funny, I think they'll end up in my video (HT) setup.  They're easily better than the Rat Shack ones I have there now.  In that system they'd be disconnected only when we move.
