I just got the shipping confirmation from Burningshed.com.  Discipline is winging its way to me as we speak.  I am pumped about this one!

Deluxe version?
Does this have the hi-res? Amazon sometimes doesn't differentiate when a set is mixed CD-DVD. Or is it a 2CD set?

http://www.amazon.com/Court-Crimson-King-Deluxe/dp/B002M3GPOS/ref=dp_return_2?ie=UTF8&n=5174&s=music

Unlike this: http://www.burningshed.com/store/kingcrimson/multiproduct/313/1658/

Which obviously has the DVD-A.

The whole thing is confusing. Great they have all the re-releases, but it's hard to keep track.

Your right, says it right in the description, bu the cd listings look like the 2 disc rebook version.  This has been out for some time now.

All in all, the options and packaging of many of these classic rock deluxe sets and box sets are quite confusing.

Discipline is in the house!  Arrived by Royal Mail this morning.

Listening to it again makes me realize what a landmark album this was for me.  Absolutely hated it at first but kept at it because my friend was taking me to the show.  It moved me from a simple “raised on rock radio” appreciation of music to a deeper, wilder, more abstract encounter with music.  It served as a musical gateway that eventually opened my ears to classical and jazz.

The 5.1 is quite immersive with aggressive use of guitars and secondary vocals in the rear channels.  Steven Wilson really had fun with Belew’s elephant sounds on the opening track.  Even in hi-rez, Belew’s jangly rhythms still bite, sometimes too aggressively.  OTOH, Fripp’s atmospherics envelope and swirl through the listening space.  Lots of snap & slam on drums while Levin’s bass reaches deep with plenty of percussive pop.

This a dangerous place... :thumb:

Yes, mine arrived too and I first played it in the car (Infiniti DVD-Audio system).  VERY nicely done.  This is a seminal album for me, too.  The wife and I saw the Three Of A Perfect Pair tour (1984) from the second row, right in front of Adrian!  It was one of my top ten of all time, and that;'s saying a lot (I'm 57 and was an avid concert goer in the 70's and 80's   8)  ).  Bill Bruford is my fave drummer, and as a huge PG fan I became enamored with Tony Levin's bass playing (stick, etc), especially live.  This, for me, is a true definition of a supergroup.

Anyway, the 5.1 Steve Wilson mix is very well done.  All the individual artistry shows up well, but no downside to the overall tightness of the band.  The only nit (and truly a nit) is that the source seems to be slightly rolled off a smidge, as if they didn't get the original masters...although who knows..not sure how else Steve would have access to the specific multitracks to do what we did.  Net/net...9.5 of 10.  Haven't heard the included cd or the 24/96 stereo mix yet.

Can't wait for Beat and TOAPP.

Robert Fripp owns the masters and they were used by Steven Wilson for this project. I can't detect any roll-off but then again my ears turned 59 last month...

All of these have been very, very good. The new "Discipline" is excellent, not quite the quantum leap that the SW "Lizard" and "Islands" were but a significant improvement over the earlier CD's and the hi-rez stuff is superb.

FYI SW's new "Grace for Drowning" is one of the best things that he has every done. Very little compression. Lots of mellotron.

I wish that the pending remix of "Aqualung" that he has done was not being bundled into a big dollar LP / CD / Hi Rez / Book set. I can't justify dropping 100 bucks on it right now. It's due 11/1.

Yeah, it's guess it's simply the same "not the quantum leap" kind of thing.  Great though, regardless.  I will get Grace For Drowning asap.  You are like the 5th person who has told me that.   :thumb:   Thanks.

My S&BB arrived yesterday also, still sounds great after almost 40 years....the 5.1 mix is inline with all the other Wilson mixes so no surprises here.

Just waiting now for Larks Tongues and then I'm done.

Echoing everyone else's comments on Aqualung, I'm pissed that we can't get the CD/HiRez discs as a standalone package, the last thing I need is a book and LP.

Anyone bought/ordered the 40th anniversary of Lark's Tongue?
I ordered the CD/DVD-A version from Amazon and the shipment date keeps getting extended, but see Burningshed appears to have it available...

Larks' Tongues was the first LP I heard on a decent system (Quad amp, KEF speakers) and I was blown away by the system performance and the music.  So this work has a history of getting me hooked into this wallet drainig hobby  :duh:

I pre-ordered it from Burning Shed and received it about three weeks ago.  Sounds as good as the others.

I went nuts and ordered the box set, which includes a blu-ray DTS Master version, plus 13 (!) CDs containing all recorded material from this line up. This album holds a special place for me. It opened up my ears to much more adventurous music.

The surround mix is really fun on this album. Jamie Muir's percussion and other sounds are spread around, and the mix really opens up the performance. The music sounds as groundbreaking as it ever did.
