Actually - can't wait to hear his stuff at the Capital Audiofest.  Always been a Carver fan.  My first separates and I owned many of their pieces was Phase Linear many moons ago.  Many years back (probably 10), I bought a couple of used C-9 Sonic Holography units one of which I have in the main system and one of which in the secondary basement system.  I don't use it tons (like a couple of times a year) but I owned them many years ago and still enjoy them.  I have a Sunfire, Jr. sub in the secondary bedroom system.  Great sub for the bedroom.

Phil,
When and where is this Capital Audiofest?
I listen to a Carver preamp and tuner pretty much every night during dinner.  It can't ALL be tubes, you know.

I've not heard anyone say anything even slightly negative about these amps so I think the Bobfather has come up with a winning design.
It's good to see him doing what he wants to do in his "retirement".
P.S.
I stand corrected, Rodney has the earlier "Root Beer" monoblocks, not the current Cherry ones.

Not much difference between them, really.  Since the original "Root Beer" config Bob has added the meter, moved an internal fuse to the rear of the chassis, and added some different gold trim.  The core design is essentially the same and still uses the same tubes.  He's also taken to winding his own transformers on modern steel having used up all his 50 year old military spec transformers in the earlier models.  Though rated at 180 watts they will put out about 240 watts with the KT88 output tubes.  His newer 305 model uses the KT120's but Bob says they sound almost exactly alike.

Thanks, I was hoping that meant D.C. as that's not too far from me.
I'll drag the wife alone, she hates that kind of stuff!

Just tell her that if it is OK for you to buy it, then you don't  have to go :green:

I think I'd better hold off for those new 900W monoblocks he's got coming out.
Does mylar explode into strips or does it actually catch on fire?

I have owned the Cherry 180 amps since December last year. Some beautiful sounding and great looking amps they are. :)

The monoblocks really sounded great.  They were driving Deadalus speakers at the Capital Audiofest.

The Black Magic 20 amps seem to be a new one:

I believe that these are the production versions of the ones the fellows were building at Carverfest a year or two back.

While they are similar, I can personally assure you they are a much better design than the DIY versions that were availavle at Carver Fest. Newly designed transformers and better circuit layout and parts. I talked to Bob Carver himself about these for some time at Axpona.

If there is any interest, mine are going up for sale. I'm completely changing my system going to high sensitivity speakers and a low powered set amp. My 180's are painted the same black as the 305's.
PM if you are interested.

That must have been what the trade-in program for the CarverFest amps was all about, then.  It was something like send in your CarverFest builds and a grand and they'd send you out a production amp or two.
That must have been fun having Bob help out with a DIY project.
There's a fellow who enjoys what he does for a living.

MCA,
I'd love your 180s but no tengo dinero.
