I have a Pair of ER18's that was designed by Dennis Murphy with the Mass Loaded Transmission Line Enclosure designed by Paul Kittinnger. This DIY design bears a very strong family resemblance to both the Salk SongTower and its big brother the Salk HT2-TL. The woofer and tweeter choice and the crossover design of the speaker is the work of Dennis Murphy who designed many of the Salk products including the SongTower and the HT2-TL. Paul Kittinger designed the mass-loaded transmission line (MLTL) cabinet for this new speaker, using the same method as he used for those two very successful Salk models.
The differences between this design and the Salk speakers are the drivers and the DIY cabinet. The woofers are the SEAS, ER18RNX an 18 cm (7") woofer with a paper cone doped with reed fibers (Two per speaker) and the Tweeter which is the Fountek NeoCD3-v2 ribbon tweeter. The cabinet has internal dimensions 7½" wide × 12" deep × 43" tall, 3/4” thick. The port tube is 3" diameter × 2¾" long and the cabinet is stuffed with 17-18 ounces of polyester fiberfill confined to the upper 22" of the interior. With two ER18 woofers, it is predicted to have a F3 of 35 Hz.
I would rate the speaker a 6 due to the DIY and the cabinet finish which is just black painted. Cabinets are solid but finish is a bit rough but is presentable. Built to spec with quality crossover parts including Clarity SA Caps in Tweeter Circuit. Parts cost over $650 without cabinets. Selling for $495 pick up in Asheville, NC 28806. I have pics I can send. Speakers are in perfect operational condition and sound excellent!! IMO one of the better box speakers I have heard. My referance speakers are Soundlab Electrostatic M-3 with the PX membranes.
