My ASL transformer came yesterday and I'm still trying to figure out the best way to strip it out and fit it into my case. Once I do that there's still a lot of drilling, polishing, gluing and so-on to do. I can't believe it's all taken so long to get all the parts!  :o At least I now have just about all the bits I need to finish the blasted thing. I'm getting a Tripath Eval board in a week or so to test against the PW and whichever I like best will ultimately end up as the amp in the box. I'm gonna take some photo's tomorrow so you can see the mess I've made

I also have a Toshiba 3960 DVD player completely stripped down awaiting a huge number of mods and a PAR Metal case. Jeez, this DIY stuff is a pain in the ass... in a fun sorta way hehe 8)

Sounds great, im looking forward to the pictures.  I just picked one up yesterday and am contemplating breaking it open to play around.  making a power supply shouldnt be too hard (im thinking battery powered) and getting some better rcas and binding posts couldnt hurt.

My biggest question is... Why does everyone hate the blue light? I love it!  When this board goes int oa new case, im sure  as hell going to try and bring the big blue light with me! :)  Perhaps put it on the bottom of the new chassis, sort agive it a ground effects look :)

cheers,
Colin

Crossfeed circuit for headphones

Details for those who like that sort of thing:

Powerwave stripped of many superfluous bits for direct wiring.
Case custom made with parts from Front panel express.
Top brass plate made by me and my drill
ASL Transformer ripped out and fitted to new brass plate.
Wood fittings made by me from nice cocobolo rosewood.
TKD pot with nice gold plated brass knob.
Assorted other parts from the usual places.

Still to come. Final finishing, all final wiring, test Tripath eval board in it and then set up production and become a bazillionaire

Fun fun fun    8)

heh, yeasss the case  :?

The stupid thing is welded together in the middle both front and back and getting it apart is a royal pain. I stuck a fine serrated blade in there as I don't have a dremmel or anything like that and gently sawed through the plastic joints. They really don't want you to get into the thing! Anyway, once it's been pryed open you're presented with the naked board  :o  What you decide to do with it next is up to you. I think I've probably taken the steps to stupidity to a whole new level with this, but it's a fun project if expensive. However, the new case is pretty generic inside so it'll be suitable for a wide range of future amp projects when the notion catches me.

I like the idea of a totally custom cool little amp and if nothing else it's a nice conversation piece

i just want something simple and small to put the powerwave in that isn't this crappy plastic thing.

i was thinking of one day putting the powerwave into a hammond case with a pimeta and somehow linking them

what do you think?

Should work with a bit of jiggling as the Pimeta is basically like a preamp as are most hadphone amps. I'd imagine linking them up shouldn't be too hard and you'd have a nice integrated amp to play with. Wired into the RCA in's it'll still allow the use of the USB. Best of both worlds.  :D

Hey RooX.
The case is a one-off. I drew up plans for Front Panel Express to machine, used a 4"square brass offcut to mount the sockets and made the wooden parts from a small board. The stuff cost about $170.00 or so and a lot of handwork.

I tip my hat to you then, that is some amazing work.  Surly the hammmond monstrosity that i cobble together will not look anything like that!! ;)

cheers,
Colin
