Smeggy,
You may want to talk to Ed at the Horn Shoppe, he has a cost-effective option.

I have been reading the post and this is interesting. A nice aluminum case would probably do justice on this little gizmo.

LMB Heeger sells a line of nice cast aluminum enclosures. I will be using one of these whenever I get the time to complete this project.

TKD- 64186 STEREO Conductive Plastic Potentiometer, 50K (50 dB audio taper)  $58.95  is available from the Parts Connexxion

http://www.partsconnexion.com/catalog/controlsswitches.html

You could also install an ELNA switch

http://www.partsconnexion.com/catalog/controlsswitches.html

and some Cardas panel mount RCAs and have a four input, intergrated amp :D

The power supply I mentioned earlier form Parts Express is a very good deal.

I would also suggest mounting a pair of binding posts on the case and remove the speaker jack.

I do have a fun idea about an upgrade for power. I hope to post more on this as the week goes by.

Thanks for the ideas Wayne!

Wayne,

Have you measured the input impedance on the Griffin?  Just curious what it is.  I am considering building a pair of the "Needles" line arrays when I finally move into my new place for my HT and was going to power them with something like this.  However, I would likely want to add a sub and am not sure a passive pre could push the griffin and the sub amp.  Any idea?

Mine seems to have really appreciated being liberated from that plastic box. I mounted it properly in a small tooled wood stash box I no longer "need," and this is a good spot for it. The high quality power supply cleaned up overall resolution, and break-in continues in small increments, as observed with the ZR amp over two months. My impression is just how good these things can sound, even with what are more or less impediments to better sound, in terms of its implementation. That is what strikes me most.  This thing punches waaaay above its weight.

That evil little blue UFO that landed on my gear has since left.

Wayne,

Any recomendations on which LMB Heeger case would fit the PW properly with the Alps pot and a set of binding posts? I've already ordered the new PSU and reserved an Alps. Just need to find the binding posts now and get a Dremmel  8)

I have the EAS-500. You might be able to use one that is not so deep.

I wish someone would integrate an XM Satellite Radio into it.  Or some way to feed the signal directely from the XMPCR product.  That would be sweet!

Guys, I have a question!

I'm toying with trying to get a Tripath evaluation board to play with.  The one I want specifies a 14.6V  power supply with a range of 8.5V to 14.6V.  Will there be any problem using my new 13.8V converter I use with my Powerwave?  Does this mean it will not perform to peak specs?  Should I just drop down a notch to the next board?

The 2021B requires the 14.6V while the 2020 requires 13.5V.

You are correct in that the chip will not produce the full rated output power if you do not give it the voltage it was spec'ed at.

I would not use the PowerWave with anything over the max suggested voltage of 13.2 for the TA2024 chip.

Hi Guys,

Question (sorry if it's been asked before), is this little amp bridgable to mono?

I am wondering about the Pyramid power supply that you recomend as an upgrade for the Powerwave. The link provided is for a 13.8 VDC power supply. The stock converter is a 12 VDC powersupply.

Did you mean to recomend a higher voltage supply for the Griffen Powerwave ? Should the power supply for the P-wave not be 12 VDC ?

Thanks

No. 26, I have been using the 13.8V Pyramid with no apparent side effect.  If you visit this link you will see the voltage ranges for the different boards.  I hope that extra 0.6V is not hurting things.

I, too, have been using the Pyramid 13.8 with no problems.

Attention K-Mart shoppers:  Is there any progress on tweaking this little blue light bandit?  Has anyone played with cases or shields?

I ripped the case apart and stuck some Blutac over the LED as a temp measure. I currently have a big pile of bits coming for my PW, I have some of the stuff already and includes a nice volume pot, a speaker to headphone converter with speaker passthrough, a crossfeed circuit which I have to build with a bypass switch, silver internal wiring. I'm gonna remove the speaker out connector on the PW and wire from the board directely to binding posts once I know what terminal is what on the PW (help needed here guys).  :)

I am also looking into case options but am undecided as yet on which design to use, might use a standard case or a complete custom job (expensive @$150 but cool looking). I have a pretty gold volume knob and a good 12v power supply. I'm also thinking of stuffing some other crap into the mix.. still pondering my options. More to come as things develop.

Hey Smegman,
Check out this sweet looking case for $80.  Pricey for this project, but really cool.

Hmm, it's a tuffy all right. I actually like this one a lot, but $220! Eeesh.

I'm sure I could multi-purpose it though to make it worth the cash

Well, first steps towards major PW carnage today. I ripped out the two switches on the back 'Mic-Line' and Play-Through' and bridged the connectors for a cleaner signal path. Next up is to remove the Power connector, the line-in RCA's and Speaker out jack.

I ordered a set of machined panels from Front Panel Express which will make a box in the shape I want it. Should arrive in a weeks time or so. In the meanwhile, I made a crossfeed circuit to go with the speaker - headphone adapter I have on order and temporarily wired up the volume pot and it all works nicely. I have a nice powerswitch on order and am going to wire the power in a way that'll work with the new case and look like it's supposed to be there. I'm going to wire directely to the RCA's and hook up the Binding posts directely the the board as well.

Should be fun

Hi all,  maybe it was mentioned in this thread and I just missed it, but where can you purchase the Powerwave Tripath amp?  I would like to see pics and info on the amp.
Thanks!
