Vintage Sony tables, like the PS-X5, X6 or X7 are besides fully or semi-automatic (at the flip of a switch) are also excellent DD turntables.

Technics also has some vintage DD tables with this feature like the SL-Q2.

Thorens is another brand that has these type of features, and they can be bought new. There are others as well from JVC, Denon, ADC.

I know Wayner's got his own angle on these  :D

But I'm still very happy running a Dual 1219 as a 2nd deck

One of the more respected versions I believe and possibly something to consider if you're after something a little more retro

Fully Auto - Flick a switch and off it goes (and returns)
33/45/78 RPM
7/10/12"

and, if you're feeling really nostalgic (and brave  :)) - stacking

Possibly another option?

Cheers
Dave

If you can find one of these, or the DP-EC2 ( I have 2 of them  :D) you won't be disappointed.

Some of the up-market Bang & Olufsens are nice, as well as the Philips GA 212 which lifts and shuts off at the end but does not return, which I think is a good compromise - preferable, in fact.

Are there any new TTs made with either auto-return or auto-lift and shut off?

The Luxman PD277 is very nice and has a fantastic 10" straight Micro Seiki arm. The auto mechanism is optical and is decoupled from the arm.

I have the GA-312, I echo the sentiment here. Very accurate vinyl reproduction, clean, stylish, aesthetically pleasing in every way. I like!

The TT has two motors, one for the arm and one for the platter. I fixed one recently, the arm was frozen and responded to removing the base and moving the gears a bit. Also had to construct a new counterweight for the anti-skate. Wayner would have been proud!

yup, here's another option

a 721 (late), fully automatic and super quiet. In full disclosure I have a 1219 as well that I love dearly and is a very good option.  The pop up on "da Bay" every now and then but they (as well as the 701/721) are starting to get pricey.  Bill Neumann sells them worked over and ready to go shipped to your doorstep. (in full disclosure I have no connection in any way shape or form with FixMyDual)  :D  If you can snag a Pioneer PL-530 and up you'd be good to go as well.  The Real Marantz and Kenwood full auto's are getting stratospheric in price as of late.

This isnt my unit but it is a DP59L

there was also one called "the lifter", made by expressimo, (nla new), that also comes up f/s every so often.

not sure if this one is awailable, maybe new?  the others are wintage, but i have 'em, and they work great:

I have one in my workshop sans the arm, I put it on an old Mission 775s I acquired. But I'm getting ready to make a solid plinth for it and actually get rid of all of the auto functions, the speed has always been dead on. I love the quality that was put into the old Luxman/Micro Seiki stuff. Besides the fact they look so cool.

Denon makes a new table that is auto return that gets some good reviews and is under $500. Not the end all of tables but it is new so should have no worries for a long time .
