XLR to RCA adapter question
« on: 29 Sep 2011, 02:25 pm »
I'm going to try a pro amp for my subs and need adapters.  Purchased a Crown K1 and only have RCA connectors.  Will this work?  Is there another, better, option?

Yup.... it will allow you to use your present rca cables, assuming you like their bass performance. I'd probably use a Neutrik version of the adapter, as I'm familiar with the quality of their products, but it would be about twice as expensive.

I agree with Paul, get the adaptor with neutrik connectors.  It looks line the bestpricecables link is neutrik.  Cheap XLR connectors will either crumble with regular use or melt when soldered.

Here's a potential issue to be aware of. RCA to XLR adaptors are wired as follows: signal + from the RCA goes to XLR pin 2 and signal - goes to XLR pin 3 and pin 1 (XLR ground).  If you connect the amp with the adaptor and get ground loop hum, you may need to lift (disconnect) pin 1 from pin 3 inside the adaptor.  Signal - from the RCA should still be connected to pin 3 of the XLR.

These are very nice and the gender options are very helpful allowing you to be flexible.  I own some of these.

Those are good, I also own some of those.
I think I did lift the wire too. I was using them on my Benchmark DAC1 at the time.
