4b pro..... another stupid question most likely!
« on: 4 Oct 2011, 05:31 pm »
Hello James and members. I'm getting closer to my new 4b sst sq. purchase. Awhile ago it was said that the 4b received newer and better caps to further evolve the model. (love that) . Does this apply to the pro version as well as the C version? :dunno:

It never hurts to  ask.I remember when the 7B Squared came out.Silly me just assumed that there was a new transformer in them.I was wrong.
Thankfully I waited for the new transformers before ordering.
Assume nothing/Ask everything/It's your money after all.

YES - although the Pro version has gain controls in the circuit path.

Thanks James. I don't suppose the 4b has the newer transformers as well !!!!!!!!! :icon_lol:

Would those gain controls affect the audio quality?

Hi

No the newer transformers only apply to the 7, 14 and 28B's

Not sure if this has been covered previously but would the newer transformers (implemented in the 7,14 and 28 amps) provide any increase in performance in the 4B, if introduced there?  What I'm trying to say is, what influenced Bryston's decision to not roll out the newer transformers across the line - diminishing marginal returns, perhaps?

Is there any intention to roll the new transformers out to the other SST2 amplifiers?  If so, when?

Thanks kindly.

The newer transformers only make sense in very large powered amplifiers.

Understand, so it would be overkill in the 4B-SST2.

Not over-kill just no performance value and more costly.

The gain controls on the pro amps aren't suppose to degrade the signal as I was informed. I assume this to be the case because I like the pro look.  :thumb:
