I cook - and I find that the problem with becoming a good cook is that my standards are higher for food overall, so I enjoy going out to restaurants less, in general.

It depends on what restaurants you go to.  I love this restaurant:

I can tell you that there's no way I could make something as good as they can make.  I had a fish and chips dinner there that was fantastic.  The fish was light and fluffy with a fine coating of bread crumbs; the ketchup was homemade and delicious; the chips were perfect.  Everything I've had there has been great.  I cook a lot and have made tons of recipes, but I can't come close to that restaurant.

I am in Iraq. I don't cook anything, I eat at the DFAC (mess hall). I am not going to say the food S**KS, but I will say it's the same stuff, every day.
Prepackaged food and I hate the scampled eggs. I don't think it's made with real eggs.

Can't wait to get back to the states and have real food choices.... I might even start cooking with the wife

My two cents

I thank you for your service.  When you get home I hope you will be able to gorge yourself on real eggs til you can eat no more! :P

I cook all our meals.  My wife's cooking skills are limited to heating up prepared foods and ordering takeout.

Wish I had more time to experiment and really sharpen my skills, but it is tough with kids, work, sports, etc...

I was a chef for 15 years and I continue to cook all the time... especially in the heat of this summer!
