After posting my original comment in this thread, I read through the rest of his product description, and I have to admit that it left me a bit nonplussed. I agree with Dave when he said that the benefit the device might accrue to a single amplifier is dependent upon that amp's having a marginal power supply, but even then, it sounds like voodoo (and the increase quoted is ridiculous). Put simply, the imply is that if both channels are pushing at the same time, the drain on the power supply will be greater than if one pushes while the other pulls – I wasn't aware than pulling was 'free' (actually, it sounds as though pulling is more than free; it's using negative energy - sounds like balancing the matter/anti-matter consumption of the warp drive ).

Regarding your general question about having too much power - worry not. Then again, I seriously doubt one needs more than 400wpc to drive a pair of 1.7s.

Dave,
thanks for getting things back on topic.  I was wondering if Franks phase inverter option in the new Fet Valve Preamp would make things sound better at lower volume levels.  According to his website you can use it with a single amp.  I called frank on Friday to have him explain this option to me clearly.  He is at a show this weekend and will not be back till Wednesday.  After I talk to Frank I will post his answer.
The reason I posted the subject here was because my main concern was if my 1.7s would be O.K. with high wattage.  I wondered if anyone else on this forum used this setup or had gobs of power running their 1.7s.

I've never used and inverter, I did at one time have a pair of mg1 improved and a pair of 1.4's both being driven by ampzillas (400 into 4) Only problem I had with that much power was an un-supervised 16yo son, bass controls on my ARC sp3a-1 dimed out and metalica being played on my TT. Needless to say, all 4 speakers develped a bad buzz in them. Less wattage, or more wattage wouldn't have prevented the issue.

Exactly!
