ok, will have to buy one cause no Y cable laying around

this is the cable that came with the HDD. Anyone know if that's something special? I'm not using that one because it is way to short, but I had hoped that to be of no consequence?

Marius,
To find out if you have a power issue with that drive you could pick up a USB Y-cable which would enable you to attach your drive to two of the BDP-1 USB ports which would double the power available to the drive.

Hi James

After another 2 weeks of faultless playing, I have to conclude the problems I had were not related to the attached HDD , but to the thumbdrives attached to the front. I left the front Thumbdrives out and everything went perfectly fine. (I even believe(d) the BDP1 sounded better without usb's loaded on the front, but that might be psychology....)

I've changed thumbdrives rangeing from 500mb to 8 gb, and I find that whenever thumbdrives are attached, playing from the HDD is compromised.
Could it have to do with USB slowing down because of the slower speed of the thumbdrives as opposed to the speed of the HDD. USB slows down to the slowest performer in the chain, and when those thumbdrives are indeed the bottleneck, HDD playing (and combined with writing to it) might be sub-optimal?

Thanks,

Marius

Hi marius - it seems like you have had continuing issues with that particular 1TB drive?

Hi marius,

I am not sure but the only thing I can think of is the combination of your HDD  and the thumb drives is affecting the power supply draw.  I have 2 - 500G and 2 thumbdrives attached to my one BDP and no issues as well as a 750 and a 500 on another BDP-1.

Make sure the HDD drive is plugged into the bottom USB port on the back of the BDP.
