I bought a bunch of headphone amps last year.
Including a Little Dot mkIII after Sam Tellig did a bit on it in Stereophile.
Well I also bought a SinglePower, and a Rudistor.
The Rudistor was really disappointing and thin sounding at first.
So i stuck it in the closet.
Took it out to see what i wanted to do with it, and HEY it now sound great.
So sold off the Little Dot. 12 hours it was gone.
Now it's the battle between the monstrous tube MPX3 SinglePower, and the slim solid state Rudistor RPX-33 mkII.
(the pigtail tweak of sticking a wire with some ferrite off the negative out of the amp works really well on the Rudistor, i stuck the pigtail right off the phone jack ground)
I use Sennheiser HD800 phones

Got any chance to try the HA-160 with your HD800's?

Nope. I have been using the Rudistor and find  it is all i want in a headphone amp. So i am not looking at any others.
I stuck the SinglePower in the closet for awile, but i will pull it out in a few months to see if i want to keep or sell it.

My 'talent' for doing reviews is zero. So  all I can say i said. It sounds nice to me.
I do not like boomy bass, (I want precise bass)and the highs have to be absolutely perfect, my #1 priority is the HF sound, all else does not matter if the highs suck in any tiny way.. the midrange just has to not be thin. i like clarity.
The Rudistor and HD800 meet my needs.

Added: in general I will tolerate a lot of 'not perfect' IF the top third IS perfect. I am a high frequency nutcase. i can listen to anything if the upper end is not too damaged. In a really good system though, the highs are EVERYTHING, and without a perfect upper end, a better system is just a pile of crap no matter what else it is doing good IMO, if the top octaves are not perfect.
So if you are a high frequency crazy like me, then my opinions should matter. if the top end or HF part of the music do not matter much to you, i am not the person to look to for any advice.
I can enjoy a bit of bottom end strength, but it has to be tight, and clean, any woollyness is just not worth the bother.
I despise the way Best Buy used to have the cheap-ass car stereo booming throughout the store, and told them so many, many times. They no longer allow that in my local area anyway..
