For James. about warranty!
« on: 19 Jan 2011, 02:41 am »
I have a question about warranty. I know if I "modified" parts inside circuit the warranty is avoid right?. But what about if I make about 20 small holes on top of chassis of a B60R to get more ventilation inside of amp. will this avoid warranty?. I noticed that the way inside of amp is "enclosed" by the heat sinks so there is not a path to circulate the heat inside.I know it uses the chassis to dissipate heat too but, there is a lot of heat "trapped" inside the amp and I would love to do this to let some heat out. some may say if I drill some holes on top they will let some dust in and the amp will live shorter life. how about those old ones with a lot of ventilation on top that lasted over 25 years and still working today. or should Bryston come up with a better way to dissipate heat inside kipping a closed chassis but with "external" heat sinks. or just let it go and leave it the way it is?

Hi,

As long as the mod does not cause the amplifier to fail then the warranty will be covered.

You might want to consider how that mod might affect resale or trade-in value before that drill starts spinnin' unless you're thinking that B60R is your BFF, sir. Just a thought FWIW...

Maybe what you think of as "heat" is the proper operating temperature.  Maybe Bryston designed it that way intentionally.

FWIW -

If you think it is running hotter than it should, then I'd send it in for an evaluation/repair.  Otherwise I'd leave it alone and let it operate as it was designed.  A question I would be asking: "is there a history of heat related problems with the B-60's"?  My guess is probably no....but it's your gear and you have to do what makes you comfortable.
