SqueezeBox touch displays file names instead of track names???

I've been ripping my CD collection into FLAC with dBpoweramp CD ripper for my SqueezeBox Touch, and everything works pretty well, but the SB Touch insists on showing the actual file name of each FLAC track rather than the track name -- I've checked the track files and they are tagged correctly for album, artist, and track title.

For example, when playing the file "mysong.flac", instead of "mysong" as the track title on the SB display, it shows "mysong.flac".

Anyone know a way around this?

Web GUI>Settings>Interface>Title Format

Just checked, it's already set that way.  Still displays file names, though!

----------------------

OK, so I changed one of the other settings from "FILE.EXT" to just "FILE", and checked that one, to see if it was ignoring titles for some reason, since my rips make the filename same as track title, maybe that would work.  No change, still shows up as name.ext...

Going to do a full rescan and see if that changes it.  :(

----------------------

Rescan didn't change it, but I finally went back to the GUI, changed settings BACK to "TITLE", applied changes, exited GUI, restarted SB Server, and finally, now it works!

Since it was set up in the first place as "TITLE", not sure what was going on, but...in many years of working in the computer field, I learned that the machines are the ultimate arbiters of what works and what doesn't!  Not users, not the documentation, and not customer support...and especially, not the guys that wrote the software!

So many people, including programmers, never seem to learn that lesson! :green:

Well, it half-works...sigh.

Now, when a song is playing, the display shows the cover art, artist, and track name -- no more ".flac" after the track name....

However, when you display the album track list, guess what...yep, there's ".flac" again in all it's ugliness.

Any more suggestions?

This controls the title format in the web interface, not on players. I don't believe the title format on the Touch is configurable through either the web settings or through the Touch's settings.

Edit: My mistake. It does also control the title format on the Touch. But only in track listings. The Now Playing screen should always show only the title.

In the Settings > Interface > Title Format, which one of the title formats is selected (by the radio buttons)? By default, the first one ('TITLE') is selected.

I usually add one, configured as

DISC-TRACKNUM. TITLE (DURATION)

and use it.

This controls the title format in the web interface, not on players. The list of title formats, though, is the list that is available for use on older players like the Transporter, SB3, etc. I don't believe the title format on the Touch is configurable through either the web settings or through the Touch's settings.

Edit: Which version of Squeezebox Server are you running?

I dunno...it certainly changed the screen display on the SBT for each track as it is played -- it was definitely showing .flac at the end of every song title, and now it's just the title.

Server version is 7.5.4 - r32171

Don't you include the track number in the file name? ....What are you using to check the tags in your files?

Well, yes, in fact -- I was just simplifying the scene to get at the base problem.  The track files are indeed named track title.flac  (at least after the first few I ripped..) --  but it doesn't matter, the displayed ".flac" issue is there regardless of what the individual track files are named.

Tags have been checked by right-clicking on the track file and selecting "show audio tags" (or whatever the exact verbiage is that comes up in the windows popup), and also in MediaMonkey -- they all look like they should.

Sorry, you missed my edit. Yes, it does control the title formatting on the Touch.

But which one do you have selected?

You don't want 'FILE' or 'FILE.EXT'. Just select the one that says TITLE. You can add formats, too, but remember to select the one you create using the radio buttons. You might want something like one of these:

TRACKNUM. TITLE
TRACKNUM. TITLE (DURATION)
DISC-TRACKNUM. TITLE
DISC-TRACKNUM. TITLE (DURATION)

The Now Playing screen should always display just the title. It's not configurable.

What I have selected now is TITLE.  And yes, that's what shows on the "now playing" screen -- however, **before** messing with it, the "now playing" screen was certainly adding ".flac" to it.

However, in lists of tracks (for an album, by artist, etc), ".flac" still appears.  I'm trying to discover, is there any way to suppress it in those lists?

Select a different title format and see if that one gets used instead. That should tell you for sure whether or not the Touch uses the one selected.

If for some reason it only uses the entry that is (was?) FILE.EXT, just edit that one and change it to whatever you like.

Been there, done that.  It wasn't paying attention to which box was selected until I changed it to a custom string, saved it, restarted the server, rescanned the library, changed it AGAIN back to title, and restarted.  Now it is in the current state, good on the "now playing screen", not so good on the lists.

Edit:  now I'm beginning to wonder if it needs ANOTHER rescan to fix the list problem...hmm, will try that later tonight when I get tired of ripping.

Well, that didn't change anything.  I guess I'm just going to live with the .flac extension showing up in track listings for now.  "Now playing" screen responds to changes in the advanced settings menu, but track listings do not, it appears.

You're not by any chance using My Music > Music Folder to browse the library, are you? That's designed to display file names, not metadata. Any of the other browse modes should show metadata.

Bingo, we may have a winner!  Yes.  The reason is that while I am in-process moving to the FLAC library, I still have "use iTUnes" checked to pick up a lot of stuff that hasn't been re-ripped yet.  But for stuff that has been, using the other browse modes results in lots of multiple entries, without immediate information as to which files are which.  Once I get everything migrated to FLAC, I will turn off the iTunes integration and use the library browse functions.

Thanks!
