Solarflares gotta like Zappa and McLaughlin . have you heard any Allan Holdsworth or Chad Wackerman both are very good
Chad on “Road Games” and “Metal Fatigue” was very good, and made quite an impact on us all at the time, with his bright, crisp sound.
The Zappa track “Them or Us” spotlighted his talents very well.
Unfortunately, the rest of his playing left me cold. Very tedious. I saw him with Frank live in ‘88 at Stockholm, and was so annoyed at this introvert that had no real presence or drum tone. For god’s sake hit the bloody things! I made my feelings quite clear to Frank at the time.
Allan Holdsworth and me were friends at one point, back in ‘78. He was frighteningly good, and the most quintessential English guitarist ever. The closing minute of UK’s “Nevermore” is pure heaven Guitar-wise.
My fav drummers with Allan have to be Gary Husband, Gary Novak, Tony Williams, and Jon Hiseman.
I love “The Sixteen Men of Tain” with Dave Carpenter on upright, with Gary Novak.
